Warranty

All products made by Lib Tech have a one year warranty against manufacturer’s defects from the date of purchase from a Lib Tech Authorized Dealer. Further, this warranty only covers defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, excessive abuse or misuse by riding things other than snow, impacts due to your steering problems, cosmetic issues or modifications you made. You must keep your sales receipt when you purchase a Lib Tech product. This is your proof of purchase and you will need to show this if you need to warranty your product. The warranty is only applicable to the original purchaser and is void if your product was purchased from another person or an unauthorized dealer (including, without limitation, Craig’s List, eBay, etc.) There is a list of Authorized Dealers on Lib Tech’s website. View our eBay statement.

If you think you may have defective product, you can take it back to the place of purchase or any Authorized Lib Tech Dealer. The Authorized Lib Tech Dealer will take a look at the product and help you determine the best course of action. The Authorized Lib Tech Dealer will call Lib Tech’s warranty department and get a RETURN AUTHORIZATION (RA) NUMBER so that the product can be sent to Lib Tech and inspected. Alternatively, if you purchased the product from an authorized online dealer, you can contact the Lib Tech warranty department and arrange to send the product back to Lib Tech yourself. An administration/postage and handling fee may be charged if the product is returned to an Authorized Lib Tech Dealer that is outside of the country where the product was initially purchased. For product purchased online, the “country of purchase” is the location from which the online dealer shipped the product. Warranty claims made in the country where the product was purchased may still incur an administration/postage and handling fee unless prohibited by local laws. ALL WARRANTY CLAIMS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A SALES RECEIPT AND AN RA NUMBER.

Do I need to register my Lib Tech product to qualify for Lib Tech's warranty?

Your Lib Tech product currently does not need to be registered for warranty. You will need a valid proof of purchase from an authorized Lib Tech dealer to pursue your warranty claim.

Do I or the shop need a RETURN MERCHANDISE AUTHORIZATION # to return my product to Lib Tech?

Yes. Individuals or shops CANNOT return product to Lib Tech without an RMA #.

How long will it take to get my product back once I send it in?

Once we receive your product at our where house please allow 5 days for us to process the claim and determine whether your product will be replaced, repaired, or denied. We normally ship replacement product using Fed Ex Ground so please factor in return shipping time for your return to address. If you choose to expedite the shipping method of your product to us we will in most cases reciprocate and ship it back to you using the same expedited method that the sender used.

For example:
If you send your board to us 2nd day air, we will send it back to you 2nd day air.

Repairs:
If it is determined that your product is to be repaired please allow 10 working days for our technicians to do the repair work and the final tuning/buffing of your board (“good as new”).

General tip:
It is always helpful if you have a backup setup to ride while your board claim is being processed.

Will Lib Tech pay for the shipping costs for me to snd the board back to them? Can they send me a call tag to have the board picked up?

No & No. Our basic warranty shipping policy is that the customer or shop pays to ship the product back to us and we pay to ship the repaired/replaced or denied product back to the customer or shop.

I have a problem with my board that concerns me, but I can't send it back right now because it is still rideable and there is too much pow pow. Can I ride the board for a while (the season) and send it back to Lib Tech when the snow melts?

Yes. Contact one of our warranty technicians as soon as you start having a problem with our product. Send us your receipt copy and digital pictures of your “defect”. We can keep you shredding until you are ready to part ways with your shred tool.

What happens if Lib Tech is out of stock of the product that I need to have replaced?

Sometimes if it is late in the season Lib Tech will replace your board with next year’s model of your product. Other times Lib Tech may replace your product with a comparable product model after consulting with you for an alternate replacement choice.

Can Lib Tech fix my board because I hit a rock on accident?

No. We’re sorry you incurred damage to your snowboard that is not covered under warranty, but unfortunately we are not a snowboard repair shop. We will be happy to help you find a good snowboard repair shop near you to do the repair.

How often should I call or email to check on the status of my warranty case?

Please keep the calls and emails to a minimum regarding your claim and always give your RMA # when inquiring about your case. The less calls and emails we get the more time we have to take care of your case.

Ski

Magne-Traction and mounting ski bindings

We have spent an amazing amount of time figuring out where to put the Magne-Traction bumps on the ski as they relate to the binding mounting location. The farther forward you mount your binding on the ski the farther ahead of the largest Magne-Traction bump your boot center gets. The has the tendency to amplify the way a regular skis rides when you are center mounted. Take that into consideration as you mount your new Lib Techs.

Where do I mount ski bindings on Lib Tech Skis?

The binding mounting badge on your new Lib Techs will help you decide where to mount your bindings. The “Sweet Spot” is where you want the boot center if you normally ski with a more traditional mounting position. The “Core Center” line on the badge is the contact center of the ski, so if you are going be skiing or landing backward regularly move your boot center forward. Where you mount your binding is a matter of personal preference. Good luck, you’re going to love your new skis.

What kind of ski bindings can I mount on Lib Tech Skis and where do I get them mounted?

Any modern Alpine, touring, or Tele mark binding that is designed to be mounted to a flat ski will work on your new Lib Techs. Any competent ski shop can do the work for a case of beer or sometimes they want money.

Surf

How much do these boards weigh?

Our unique production process allows us to strategically modify our board weights to virtually any target. Most surfers tend to like the weight of a conventional 4+4/4 polyester and get a little grumpy on lighter or heavier boards. Thus we target our weights to be just a couple of ounces lighter than conventional 4+4/4 polyesters.

Why is a snowboard company making surfboards?

It may sound like a long drawn out R&D program, but we’ve been working on alternative surf constructions (non-polyester, non-sailboard) since the early 80’s. There are 5 important reasons why we are launching the Waterboarding Division now:

  • Industry standard surfboards are too dang fragile. Lib tech will set a new standard for durability. Squeeze our rails!
  • Industry standard surfboards are too dang toxic to the craftspeople and the environment. Lib Tech will set a new standard of responsibility to surfboard craftspeople and the environment.
  • Current industry standard shapes can often be a bit retro-whacky and underperforming. Lib Tech will handcraft unique, progressive, high-performance shapes that excel in inverted skysurfing or just trimming down the line (Huntington-Hop not necessary).
  • Much of the surf industry is outsourcing boards to the cheapest labor markets in the world. All of our boards are handcrafted one at a time by us in the USA with love.
  • We are very passionate about surfing and still get butterflies when thinking about it.

Do you make longboards, skimboards, wakeboards or SUPs?

No but our surfboards are great!

What are B-Grade boards?

B-Grade surfboards have small cosmetic blemishes that allow us to sell them to you at a discount! They do not affect the structural integrity of the board and work perfectly! Blems may include but are not limited to: offset stringers, bruises, sidewall bubbles, thin rails, dents, dirty glass or glue spots. We are unable to pinpoint what the blemish is on a specific board at the time of purchase. Some images of common blemishes can be found below!

What is that silver stuff on the side?

NEW ELASTOMATRIX PERIMETER DAMPENING WEB
The metallic fibers on the rails are rubberized to give the boards a silky smooth ride even in choppy conditions, and are Dang Difficult 2 Ding (2D2D).

What are our leash plugs made of?

LIB TECH LEASH PLUG
Leash plugs feature anodized 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum pins and a super light fiber-composite cup.

What is up with the honeycomb?

Our Hexzylon Fiberfoam skin is the work engine that also greatly enhances ding resistance and break strength while also introducing an element of dampness to the whole board, meaning these boards have a silky, smooth ride even in choppy conditions… like a musical instrument with fine tuned acoustics.

Is it epoxy or polyester?

Instead of toxic industry-standard polyester or old-fashioned epoxy, we use a new chemistry we call LVR43 HIGH REBOUND MATRIX that has higher elongation, extreme ding resistance, and responsive rebound.

Will they rot?

100% closed cell foam won’t absorb water… won’t rot.

Will I get pressure-dent foot wells?

Not likely. The concave deck will give you the grip qualities of the best foot wells without the negative qualities of a deck that is disintegrating and killing your board.

Can I really go into a surf shop and squeeze the rails on a Lib Tech?

Yes.

What is the Speed Texture Base Finish?

Lib Tech Waterboards have a finish on the bottom similar to a mini-version of a golf ball texture to help break friction. You can rub your fingernail down the base of a Lib Tech and hear the beautiful sound of speed potential.

Are your boards molded?

No more molded than a traditional polyester/PU surfboard.

How's the flex?

Awesome... feels very similar to a new polyester/PU but with higher pop energy that will keep on going and going. Higher Ollies Guaranteed!

Where are they made?

Every waterboard is hand made by surfers in the USA near Canada at the world's most environMENTAL board factory!

What if somehow I get a ding?

In the rare case of a ding, we recommend not repairing unless absolutely necessary. None of the components in Lib Tech Waterboards will absorb water.

We recommend using stickers, wax, hot-melt glue, etc. or anything to avoid polyester, epoxy, sandpaper and sanding. Dust and sanding sucks.

DO NOT USE POLYESTER RESIN.

Epoxy, and UV resins can all be used if absolutely necessary.
We favor epoxy for strength and safety. Never let any unhardened resin come in contact with your skin. Always remember, razor blades instead of sandpaper if possible.

What is the core?

It is a brand new core called, LIGHTWEIGHT POWERPOP AIRSPRING CORE. Our exclusive closed cell alloy formula will not absorb water, is springy like a trampoline, contains up to 50% recycled content, and uses ozone friendly blowing agents. All offcuts go back into the process of making new blanks. This is a new formula that didn’t exist a year ago.

What are your surfboards made of?

We have completely redesigned the surfboard manufacturing process from the bottom up. Our new process shares nothing in common with contemporary surfboards and snowboard manufacturing. Over 30 intricate pieces go into each board, yet only the 10/24 stainless fin screws are status quo to the surf world.”“With our new process called “Isotropic Fusion” we are building super ding-resistant boards that have high energy return (liveliness) and a silky-smooth timbre even in choppy surf. We have a new foam chemistry, new fibers, new vibration dampeners, a new matrix, new fin boxes, our own fins, even our own lightweight leash plugs, and much friendlier manufacturing methods that have eliminated sandpaper, tape, paintbrushes, dust clouds and toxic solvents.

Are they environmentally friendly?

Yes they are environMENTALLY Nice, take a look at Mervinmade.com for more info.

Can I use other companies' fins on them?

Yes, our fin boxes are compatible with Pro Box, FCS, and all FCS dual tab style fins. Our surfboards are FCS2 compatible, but they do not snap in so you will need to use a fin key.

Are the fins adjustable?

Yes! Industry leading 5 /8ths of an inch fore and aft adjustable positioning, chemically and physically integrated, compatible with Pro Box, FCS, and all FCS dual tab style fins.

Start by positioning fins in the center of each micro-option slot.

SCREW 6-8 TIMES BEFORE SURFING.

You can fine-tune for wave conditions or your surfing style. Bring fins closer together for looser surfing, spread fins apart for longer arcs, or play with asymmetric fin positioning just because you can.

Will my screwing habits really stay about the same?

Our screwing proclamation may be a little inaccurate. Some surfers may have to screw twice as much, and some will need to screw 6-8 times as much before surfing. Many surfer's screwing habits will remain about the same. Your past screwing habits really do matter: Futures, glass-ons, Bahne, FCS.

Why don't you have registration marks on the fin boxes and fins to help with positioning?

We do. The checkers are a basic guideline to help with fin positioning. Just count checkers and half checkers from one end of the fin to the box edge. Because so many brands of fins can fit our fin boxes, we came up with checkers that can work as a positioning guide with any brand of fins. And checkers = speed.
If you are still confused, try a felt pen.

Who shapes them?

Mike Olson and Jeff Henderson shape them.

So I just spent 2 years growing a braided dread beard... are you going to make thick heavy fish boards with plywood skegs and colored resin swirls?

A: No

Q: Okay......how about any sort of retro Funfisheggs?

A: No

Q: But I really want to try a Lib Tech.........what should I do?

A: Try a "high" performance Lib Tech shape with our "Rasta Poly" color option. Save the planet. Join a drum circle. Surf above the lip.

What are the bottom contours on your boards?

For all models we utilize "Skipping Rock Technology" with varying degrees of shallow single concaves. We used to shape deeper single to double concaves in the eighties and nineties, but found the shallow single to have better feeling qualities overall for our style of high-performance shortboards... raw speed with less rail drag. Many bottom contours work well. We like our combination a lot.

Can you do customs?

Unfortunately we cannot currently offer custom shapes or graphics, but you can always paint your board to make it your own!

Why are all the decks concave?

We've been shaping concave decks into our surfboards since 1980.  Concave decks add 4 main positive properties to a surfboard.  Concaves produce extra gas-pedal power for gouging turns, extra foot grip for skysurfing etc., they add strength to the deck due to the complex contour of the fiber orientation, and concave decks are super comfy and fit like a cradle on your belly.

Do you offer a warranty on your surfboards?

No. You bought it, you break it... if you can.

Skate

How long have you been making skateboards?

Since 1977

Why are snowboarders making skateboards?

We are skateboarders who started snowboarding.

Do you make Lib Skates at your factory?

Yes we make all the Exo-Skeletech decks at Mervin MFG in Washington State.
The Hesho skates are environMENTALLY manufactured in the USA outside of Mervin.

Why do Lib Tech Skateboards last longer?

They are built with Exo-Skeletech composite construction. Where we use tough materials on the outside and light materials on the inside and hold it all together with fiberglass and epoxy resin.
